Greenbelt MD (SPX) Jun 29, 2009 - The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has successfully entered orbit around the moon following a nearly five-day journey. Engineers at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., confirmed the spacecraft's lunar orbit insertion at 6:27 a.m. EDT on June 23.
Fairfax VA (SPX) Jun 26, 2009 - General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems is providing the communications link for NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission launched on June 18, 2009. The mission will use General Dynamics-made transceivers to communicate with ground control as it maps and studies the lunar environment. General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems is a business unit of General Dynamics.
Moffett Field CA (SPX) Jun 25, 2009 - The Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite, or LCROSS, successfully completed its most significant early mission milestone Tuesday with a lunar swingby and calibration of its science instruments. The satellite will search for water ice in a permanently shadowed crater at the moon's south pole.
Pasadena, Calif. (UPI) Jun 24, 2009 - The U.S. space agency's Diviner, an instrument that will map the moon's temperature, has entered a lunar orbit aboard NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.
Greenbelt, Md. (UPI) Jun 24, 2009 - The U.S. space agency says its Interstellar Boundary Explorer has made the first detection of very fast neutral atoms emanating from the moon.
Washington DC (SPX) Jun 23, 2009 - Two NASA spacecraft will reach major mission milestones early Tuesday morning as they approach the moon - one will send back live streaming imagery via the Internet as it swings by the moon, the other will insert itself into lunar orbit to begin mapping the moon's surface.
Greenbelt, MD (SPX) Jun 23, 2009 - After a four and a half day journey from the Earth, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, or LRO, has successfully entered orbit around the moon. Engineers at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., confirmed the spacecraft's lunar orbit insertion at 6:27 a.m. EDT Tuesday.

Pasadena CA (SPX) Jun 19, 2009 - A new lunar topography map with the highest resolution of the moon's rugged south polar region provides new information on some of our natural satellite's darkest inhabitants - permanently shadowed craters.
San Antonio TX (SPX) Jun 19, 2009 - NASA's Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX) spacecraft has made the first observations of very fast hydrogen atoms coming from the Moon, following decades of speculation and searching for their existence.
Tempe AZ (SPX) Jun 19, 2009 - The Interdisciplinary A building on the Tempe campus looks rather average from the outside. There isn't anything that hints at the excitement, talent and innovation hidden behind its nondescript doors, and there is certainly no indication that the first steps of a great journey are taking place inside.
Pasadena CA (SPX) Jun 18, 2009 - NASA is scheduled to launch the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, an unmanned mission to comprehensively map the entire moon,. One of the instruments aboard, the Diviner Lunar Radiometer Experiment, will make the first global survey of the temperature of the lunar surface while the orbiter circles some 50 kilometers (31 miles) above the moon.
Washington (AFP) June 18, 2009 - NASA Thursday launched two probes into space in the first step of a long journey to return mankind to the moon in 2020.
Washington (AFP) June 16, 2009 - NASA embarks on a landmark mission of lunar exploration this week with the launch of probes to scout for water sources and landing sites, in a bid to lead humanity back on the first visit to the moon since 1972.
Moffett Field CA (SPX) Jun 15, 2009 - NASA robots soon will begin exploring the dusty, rocky terrain of a barren desert on Earth much like the moon. Scientists and engineers will study the images and information the robots gather to help plan where humans should venture next.
Los Angeles CA (SPX) Jun 12, 2009 - When NASA launches the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, a yearlong unmanned mission to comprehensively map the entire moon, later this month, UCLA's David Paige will be leading its Diviner Lunar Radiometer Experiment, which will perform the first global survey of the temperature of the lunar surface as the spacecraft orbits some 31 miles above the moon.
