Moffett Field CA (SPX) Jun 15, 2009 - NASA robots soon will begin exploring the dusty, rocky terrain of a barren desert on Earth much like the moon. Scientists and engineers will study the images and information the robots gather to help plan where humans should venture next.
Los Angeles CA (SPX) Jun 12, 2009 - When NASA launches the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, a yearlong unmanned mission to comprehensively map the entire moon, later this month, UCLA's David Paige will be leading its Diviner Lunar Radiometer Experiment, which will perform the first global survey of the temperature of the lunar surface as the spacecraft orbits some 31 miles above the moon.
Tokyo (AFP) June 11, 2009 - Japan's first lunar satellite on Thursday ended its scientific mission which started in September 2007 and was manoeuvred to crash onto the moon, the nation's space agency said.
Troy NY (SPX) Jun 09, 2009 - Lunar eclipses are well-documented throughout human history. The rare and breathtaking phenomena, which occur when the moon passes into the Earth's shadow and seemingly changes shape, color, or disappears from the night sky completely, caught the attention of poets, farmers, leaders, and scientists alike.
Hampton VA (SPX) Jun 09, 2009 - The results of the second annual NASA Lunar Art Contest are out-of-this-world productions from high school and college students from around the globe.
Moffett Field CA (SPX) May 27, 2009 - NASA's return to the Moon will get a boost in June with the launch of two satellites that will return a wealth of data about Earth's nearest neighbor. The agency has outlined the upcoming missions of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, or LRO, and the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite, or LCROSS.
Shanghai (XNA) May 27, 2009 - A space scientist has said that Chinese scientists are considering the feasibility of a manned lunar landing mission at an appropriate time between 2025 and 2030.
Washiongton DC (SPX) May 22, 2009 - NASA's return to the moon will get a boost in June with the launch of two satellites that will return a wealth of data about Earth's nearest neighbor. On Thursday, the agency outlined the upcoming missions of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, or LRO, and the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite, or LCROSS.
Bangalore, India (SPX) May 22, 2009 - The Indian space agency has raised the orbit of its first unmanned lunar spacecraft Chandrayaan-1 to 200km from the lunar surface for further studies on orbit perturbations and gravitational field variations of the Moon.
Houston TX (SPX) May 21, 2009 - Unlike other Space Flight Simulation studies which mimic micro gravity by placing subjects in a bed with their heads inclined six degrees lower than their feet, The Lunar Analog study is a 9.5 degree head up study.
Washington (AFP) May 21, 2009 - NASA on Thursday said it was on target for a June mission to scour the Moon's surface for landing sites and water that would allow humans to work and even live on Earth's nearest neighbor.
Washington (UPI) May 19, 2009 - The U.S. space agency has produced a new book chronicling Apollo mission 7 through 17 using photographs selected by the astronauts.
Sydney, Australia (SPX) May 18, 2009 - The USA could lose a new race to the Moon with China, according to a space analyst. Dr Morris Jones, an Australian writer and space analyst, claims that America is losing its strategic lead in spaceflight. He claims that a rapidly advancing Chinese space program will soon have the capability to send Chinese astronauts to the Moon.
Washington DC (SPX) May 08, 2009 - This coming July 20 marks the 40th anniversary of men first landing on another celestial body. And in looking back at this historic time, lawmakers from the state that's home to Kennedy Space Center ( KSC ) want the nation to honor two major firsts from the early days of America's space program, starting with the lunar landing.
Houston TX (SPX) Apr 20, 2009 - Space seems exotic, forbidding, and remote, but imagine trying to survive winter without a heated shelter or warm clothing. Our ancestors developed these technologies because they needed room to grow; without them, we would still be confined to narrow areas along the equator, but with them, we could live anywhere in the world. With the right technology, space is just another place for people to live.
Houston TX (SPX) Apr 20, 2009 - In the 1960s and 1970s, the Apollo Moon Program struggled with a minuscule, yet formidable enemy: sticky lunar dust. Four decades later, a new study reveals that forces compelling lunar dust to cling to surfaces - ruining scientific experiments and endangering astronauts' health - change during the lunar day with the elevation of the sun.
