Prairie View TX (SPX) Jan 19, 2010 - Barely two months after NASA intentionally crashed the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) into the moon's southern polar region and discovered water, faculty and student researchers from the NASA Center for Radiation Engineering and Science for Space Exploration (CRESSE) at Prairie View A and M University are already investigating how moisture content might alter the radiation shielding properties of various building materials in space.

Washington DC (SPX) Jan 15, 2010 - Tycho Crater is an one of the most prominent craters on the moon. It appears as a bright spot in the southern highlands with rays of bright material that stretch across much of the nearside. Its prominence is not due to its size: at 85 km in diameter, it's just one among thousands of this size or larger.

Moffett Field CA (SPX) Jan 11, 2010 - Space agencies around the world have been gearing up for the return of human explorers to the Moon by developing fantastic new technologies. From rovers to rockets, these technologies are necessary for transporting astronauts to the Moon and for performing surface geology and biology experiments.

Los Angeles (SPX) Dec 30, 2009 - As twilight descends on New Year's Eve of 2009, a full Moon will rise in the eastern sky for the second time this month (the first time came on December 2nd). Many people use the expression once in a blue Moon to mean something that occurs rarely, and you might be tempted to call December 31st's full Moon a Blue Moon too. While the former meaning can be traced back centuries, the latter definition is much newer - and it's wrong!

Canberra, Australia (SPX) Dec 22, 2009 - When you hear someone say Once in a Blue Moon you know what they mean. They're usually talking about something rare, silly, and even absurd. After all, when was the last time you saw the moon turn blue? Well, rare or not, we're having one this month, and according to astronomer David Reneke from Australasian Science magazine, it's going to happen on New Year's Eve!

Sydney, Australia (SPX) Dec 15, 2009 - If we hope to return astronauts to the Moon in the future, we need to carry out a lot of preparations. Sure, NASA and other agencies are working on hardware that could take us there. But we also need to investigate the potential impact of the Moon on the astronauts themselves. Biological studies of the lunar environment have barely been carried out.

Sydney, Australia (SPX) Dec 10, 2009 - Scientists are looking for life in space. So far, they haven't found any life beyond Earth itself. We seem to be getting closer to discovering life somewhere else in our own solar system, with Mars, and some moons of Jupiter and Saturn being considered likely hiding spots for microbes.

Washington DC (SPX) Dec 09, 2009 - When the LCROSS rocket stage slammed into Cabeus crater on October 9, creating an impact plume of material that had not seen sunlight for possibly billions of years, it conclusively proved that water ice exists in the dark recesses of the Moon's polar craters.
