Macao's University To Analyze Data From China's Moon Probe
Macao (XNA) Dec 15, 2008 The Macao University of Science and Technology (MUST) Friday unveiled its lab of applied research of moon and planetary exploration science, which will analyze the data obtained by China's first moon probe Chang'e-1. The lab is co-established by MUST and the National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC). Ouyang Ziyuan, chief scientist for China's moon exploration program attended the inauguration ceremony of the lab. Aside from the data analysis, the lab will also launch another two projects concerning the water detection on the moon surface and data processing. The lab will also develop relevant software, which will be provided to the researchers inside and outside of China, and it also aimed to disseminate the knowledge about planetary exploration to the locals. Chang'e-1 was launched into space on Oct. 24 last year. This was the first step of China's three-stage moon mission. The probe sent the first full map of the moon's surface back to China in November 2008.
